Top 3 PHP Content Management Systems (CMS)

Content Management Systems are a very popular choice for creating a website.  They appeal to everyone from the first time webmaster to the advanced programmer.  My top three content management systems are Wordpress, Drupal, and Typo3.

Wordpress

Wordpress is my favorite content management system for building websites.  Over the past several years, Wordpress has really grown into an excellent CMS.  The administrative interface is very easy to use and writing content is simple and straightforward.  SEO is ready out of the box and is incredibly simple to use.  Wordpress has an excellent community with thousands of free plugins and themes available.

Drupal

Drupal is another excellent content management system.  Setup is fairly straightforward and has gotten much easier since the release of version 7.  I am not much of a fun of the new administrative interface, but it is a big improvement over version 6.  Perhaps version 8 will be even more user friendly.  Drupal can be customized to run any kind of website you can imagine.  There is a slightly longer learning curve with Drupal than with Wordpress, but the development framework is more extensive.  Drupal has a great community with thousands of free modules and themes.

Typo3

Type3 is a great content management system, but can be difficult to learn and has a high learning curve for development.  The Typo3 framework is fast and has been extended by a large community of committed developers.  As with Drupal, Typo3 can be customized to run any kind of website you can imagine.
